Harry graduated from UCT with B.A., B.A. (Hons) and LLB degrees.
He commenced practice at the Law Firm, CK Friedlander Kleinman & Shandling (as it then was) in Cape Town in January 1979 and practiced as an attorney, notary and conveyancer. He was appointed as a partner in 1984 and specialised in property law, conveyancing and deceased estates. In 2012 the firm (by then known as Friedlander Shandling Volks) merged with Smith Tabata Buchanan Boyes, whereupon Harry was appointed as a director of that firm.
Harry retained an active interest in his anti-Apartheid work and was part of a team which defeated the Pass Laws and rendered the system inoperable prior to their repeal.
He also evolved a financial system for transferring residential properties in underprivileged areas, where neither buyer nor seller had funds to cover pre-transfer disbursements, and which system later gave rise to the industry now referred to as “bridging finance”.
In the course of his career as a sectional title conveyancer he registered in the region of 200 sectional title schemes, from small to large.
Harry works mostly from home in a practice which adds an extra dimension to the main work of Bagraims Attorneys. Harry is available on request.
